Course Description

In this seminar, Kripamoya Das discusses both the tradition and modern practice of upanayanam or investiture with the Gayatri mantra; the culture surrounding the three-times-daily recitation of mantras; and the often overlooked or infrequently discussed details. For those seeking or curious about second initiation, this will be informative and help you move forward; for those already initiated as brahmanas this will strengthen and enliven your practice.

Teacher Profile

Kripamoya Das is an initiated disciple of His Divine Grace A.C.Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, the spiritual teacher who created the Hare Krishna movement and brought the Vaishnava tradition from India to the rest of the world.

He was born in 1956 in south Wales, where his parents were both in the Royal Air Force. His father was later a policeman and, along with two brothers and a sister, He was raised as a chapel-going Methodist in a succession of small seaside villages in Cornwall.

When he was nine, he told my mother he wanted to go to Tibet and become a Buddhist monk; at thirteen he discovered yoga, and the following year he became aware of the orange-clad ‘Hare Krishna people.’ He bumped into them twice during 1973, then finally listened to what they had to say in 1974. He met the founder of the Hare Krishna movement and became his student in 1975. After helping to pioneer the early Krishna movement, travelling throughout Britain and Ireland for six years, he was stationed in Kenya, tropical east Africa, for two years. He returned to England and spent three years raising funds for the various temples. For the following twelve years I co-directed ISKCON’s ‘Readers’ Services,’ serving the needs of hundreds of our members.

He have visited India thirty times, leading groups of spiritual travellers to many sacred places. He have an avid interest in religious history and today’s challenges and issues. Although he is an Englishman (Welshman), he is a qualified Hindu priest and conduct traditional Indian weddings and other life-passage ceremonies. He help care for individual members and the many congregational groups that meet throughout England. He have been married for thirty-five years to Guru Charana Padma Dasi and we have three children: Jahnavi, Tulasi and Mali.
