Celebrating 11 Years of Service: Gratitude and the Manor

Bhaktivedanta Manor and the local charity Gratitude proudly celebrates 11 years of collaboration, united by a shared dedication to service and community upliftment. Together, this partnership has provided vital resources to thousands, fostering a spirit of generosity and inspiring others to serve with compassion and commitment.

Gratitude operates a food bank in Borehamwood, distributing groceries and essentials to approximately 1,800 people each week, serving individuals from all communities. Since the onset of COVID-19, this initiative has delivered an estimated £16.5 million worth of food to local residents, including Manor members and the local Jewish community, with a focus on vegetarian offerings. This shared mission ensures that nutritious, high-quality food reaches those in need, regardless of background.

Gratitude’s impact extends beyond food. Two years ago, the organisation launched a unique initiative, redistributing 24,000 flower bulbs that would otherwise have been discarded. This year, the Manor joined the bulb-planting programme once again. These efforts, supported by discounted pricing, are beautifying Hertfordshire, including the tranquil grounds of the Manor.

Devotees such as Japa Yajna das, Shantasya dasi, and Kamlesh Krsna das uphold the belief that service to Krishna and His devotees transcends boundaries, reaching people of all faiths and backgrounds. Planting bulbs for Krishna complements engaging diverse communities in meaningful activities that encourage social interaction, learning, and leisure—core to our shared vision.

With around 100 active volunteers and a commercial kitchen, Gratitude continually seeks support, particularly from cooks, to assist with its Food For Life programme. This initiative is expanding onto university campuses with the support of the Head of Volunteers at the Manor and ISKCON managers, broadening its reach to inspire the next generation.

Together, Bhaktivedanta Manor and Gratitude remain steadfast in their mission to serve and uplift communities, honouring Lord Krishna through acts of kindness and unity.
