Cow Protection Centre
What is New Gokul?
It is a Cow Protection Centre and a living example of harmony between humans, animals and the environment
New Gokul Farm is based at Bhaktivedanta Manor. With a herd of 63 cows and bulls, modern and traditional cow care facilities and acres of pastureland, it’s a real haven for the cows! The centre is also home to an organic agricultural farm with uses sustainable and natural farming methods that are good for the soil and environment.
New Gokul Farm’s primary concern is to present alternatives to agricultural and dietary practices that support and depend upon the meat and dairy industries’ slaughter of innocent animals, specifically the cow. To this end, New Gokul Farm presents the philosophy and implementation of compassionate cow protection.
What activities can I do there?
A lot of them actually – milking, brushing, feeding and much more. You might even befriend a cow or two and get to know them! When you book a tour with us, you’ll be able to get the full experience! Make sure you let us know your choices when you book.
Milk the cows
When you book a tour, you will be able to come along and milk one of the cows. Yes, we hand-milk them all! Come and feel the connection with mother cow and nature for yourself.
Brush the cows
Cows love getting brushed too. Especially on their back and belly. Give one of these cows a good massage and they will remember you for as long as you live!
Feed the bulls
Feeling brave? Come and give these 1.5 ton bulls a healthy helping of greens. Yes, they’re vegetarian, but please don’t ask them if they get enough protein!
Get to know the herd
These cows and oxen spend their entire lifespan of about 16-20 happily on the farm. Cows give milk, oxen work on the organic farm and bulls propagate the herd. They all have unique personalities. Find your favourite below and say hello when you come visit!
Why protect cows?
Hearing the term “Cow Protection,” people typically have one of two reactions. Some think protection is for endangered species and since there are lots of cows, it’s better to concentrate on the giant panda, the blue whale or the vampire bat. Others may think it’s a form of pagan worship of animals. Cows are protected for many reasons. Have a look below.
Cows are considered to be mothers
A mother breastfeeds her child for a mere few months, and then cow’s milk thereafter performing the same role. So you wouldn’t put your mother in a sandwich when she’s old, would you?
All living beings are spiritual in essence
We are all spiritual living beings in different bodies based on our karma and desires. A self realised person sees all living beings as equal regardless of the body they possess.
Cows are sacred in Vedic tradition
The Vedas say that it is in order to establish this very fact that Lord Krishna appeared in a family of cowherds. Cows hold a very special position and hence are respected and worshipped.
