On the morning of the 15th April, all of New Gokul’s herd of 46 cows and bulls were allowed to once again graze in the fields. After spending five months inside their winter accommodation, they ran, jumped and mooed joyously as they explored their new territory.
“It reminded me of one of Lord Krishna’s pastimes”, said New Gokul manager Syamasundar das, “When Krishna and his brother Balaram were in the forest tending calves, they noticed a herd of cows at the top of Govardhana Hill looking down at them. Then, the cows started running toward them and leaping down the hill. Practically melting with love for the calves, the cows didn’t care about the roughness of the path down to the pasture.”
